Optoma ships a duo of unbelievably cheap projectors with gamers in mind. Sweet
After telling you in a previous story that Optoma was launching new cheap gaming projectors in October, we can now update you by revealing that they're finally here. And now we have definite prices, confirming their status as the cheapest home entertainment DLP projectors we've ever heard about. They cost just £500 and - drum roll please - £350. Lux a lordy.
The two models in question, in case you missed the previous story, are the GameTime GT-3000 and GT-7000 which, as their name suggests, are designed predominantly with game players in mind. But both can also play films as well, of course.
For the purposes of this website, it's the GT-7000 that's by far the most interesting of the two models, since it's got an HD Ready native resolution and carries an HDMI v1.3 input - two things the GT-3000 doesn't offer. In fact, the GT-3000 isn't even natively widescreen, meaning that it's pretty much just a Wii machine, to be honest.
So going back to the Xbox 360-, PS3-, HD movie-friendly GT-7000, it also gets you a 4000:1 contrast ratio and a surprisingly high 1600 ANSI Lumens brightness.
As if just getting a projector for £350 or £500 wasn't bargain enough, Optoma is also chucking a 2.1 audio system in with each of the projectors so you can just set up your own movable movie and game system anywhere you like with a minimum of hassle. In fact, you even get a specially designed carry bag for both projectors as well.
Basically Optoma's GameTime projectors seem to be opening the door to loads more people being able to play all those lovely console and PC games we're currently snowed under with at truly massive screen sizes. And as long time devotees of playing games on projectors, that can only be a good thing in our humble opinion. As long as the new projectors aren't actually rubbish, of course! Given Optoma's mostly impressive heritage, we're hoping for the best.
